Bank of England pauses rate hikes

THE Bank of England (BoE) left its key interest rate unchanged on Thursday, snapping 14 straight hikes following a shock slowdown to UK inflation and one day after the US Federal Reserve (Fed) also hit pause.

The BoE's monetary policy committee decided in a close 5-4 vote to maintain its key rate at 5.25 percent, the highest level in more than 15 years.
