BANNER: Business to govt: Solve corruption first

ENABLERS are the main reason for the persistent corruption in the country, said Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) Conference Committee Chief Executive Officer Alma Rita Jimenez. A 2023 P.w.C. survey in partnership with the MAP revealed that 97 percent of the 157 C.E.O's in the country said that the government is not performing well in fighting corruption. It shows no significant difference compared to last year's result of 67 percent of 119 C.E.O's.

Philippines to issue updated WPS map

THE Philippine government, in response to China's 10-dash line map of the South China Sea, will release a new map reflecting the legality of the country's maritime domain and territorial sovereignty in the disputed territory in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (Unclos). China recently came up with an updated 10-dash line map, highlighting its jurisdiction in the entire South China Sea that intruded into the Philippine exclusive economic zone and the coastlines of Malaysia and India.

Teodoro confirmed as Defense chief

THE Commission on Appointments on Thursday confirmed the ad interim appointment of Gilberto Teodoro Jr. as Department of National Defense secretary, a position he held 16 years ago. Teodoro previously served as defense chief from 2007 to 2009 under the administration of then President and now House Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

President pitches Maharlika fund anew in Singapore

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday urged foreign investors to consider the Maharlika Investment Fund, which he said was designed to further drive economic development in the Philippines and ease its "borrowing woes." Marcos made a pitch for the M.I.F. during his talk at the Milken Institute's 10th Asia Summit in Singapore, where he invited businessmen "to explore the Philippines as a destination for investment."

Topping business, the President urged investors to set up shop in the country, which he described as "open for business." Speaking before Singaporean chief executive officers and investors at the 10th Asia Summit in Singapore, Marcos said that now was the best time to pour capital into the country as it "remains steadfast in its pursuit of economic growth, social progress and sustainable development."

SPORTS: Brownlee vows to go all out in Asiad

Over to sports, Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Justin Brownlee admitted he's still working his way back as far as conditioning is concerned since undergoing a minor ankle procedure over a month ago. But the 35-year-old Browlee said the thought of wearing the Gilas Pilipinas jersey once again brings so much excitement and energy as he tries to help the Philippines redeem itself from a one-win 2023 FIBA World Cup stint.
