JAKARTA: Hopes of a return to democracy in junta-ruled Myanmar are being crushed by "systematic repression," United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday at a summit with American, Chinese and regional leaders in Indonesia.
Myanmar has been ravaged by deadly violence since its military mounted on Feb. 1, 2021, a coup that ousted Aung San Suu Kyi's elected government, unleashing a bloody crackdown on dissent.
