(UPDATE) INFLATION snapped a downtrend in August following a sharp rise in food and transport costs, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Tuesday.

At 5.3 percent, August inflation rose from July's 4.7 percent and was also higher than the 4.9-percent consensus in a Manila Times poll of economists.
