A HISTORIC chapter in the Philippine sports scene came as the country hosted the much-anticipated International Basketball Federation or Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Basketball World Cup 2023. This was the second time that the Philippines welcomed the major basketball competition with the first one dating back to 1978.

The Philippines organized the event together with its co-hosts Japan and Indonesia. From August 25 to Sept. 10, 2023, a total of 32 teams competed in 92 matches, all in pursuit of the coveted Naismith Trophy.
