Gilas bows out of Olympic race, suffers deflating loss to South Sudan

Gilas Pilipinas fell short of its fourth-quarter comeback as it bowed to an energetic South Sudan side, 87-68, in the qualification phase and kissed its Olympic bid goodbye in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Thursday night, August 31, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Down by as many as 21 points in the second quarter, Dwight Ramos led a courageous comeback that saw the Philippines claw back to within five at 59-64 midway in the third period.
