SPEARHEADED by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), The Manila Times and The Manila Times TV, the "Tribute to soldiers" awards event seeks to recognize and reward men and women in uniform who have served with distinction and yet, despite their achievements, have remained unserved and underserved.

"It refers to achievements which were performed over and beyond the call of duty or normal circumstances, which yielded very significant effects such as saving the organization from costly acquisitions, changing a system for the better, preventing [damage] and saving someone's life," says a representative of the AFP Media and Civil Affairs Group (MCAG), adding that such acts are akin to going the extra mile or being two steps ahead of competition.
