'Tribute to soldiers' launched by The Times

TO raise public awareness of the extraordinary and everyday heroism as well as sacrifices of Filipino soldiers, The Manila Times and The Manila Times TV join forces with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in launching the annual "Tribute to soldiers" awards on Aug. 28, 2023 at 6 p.m.

During the inaugural staging of the awards show at The Manila Hotel, one military unit and 10 AFP personnel are honored for their outstanding achievements during the previous year that have made an indelible impact on the military or the community in which the troops are deployed. Few locations for such an event are as fitting or as significant as The Manila Hotel, known fondly to its generations of regulars as "the grand old dame," for it was once the long-time residence of the famed American Gen. Douglas MacArthur as well as the temporary headquarters of the Japanese Military Administration.
