Thai ex-premier Thaksin jailed on return from exile

(UPDATE) BANGKOK: Thailand's former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra returned from 15 years in exile on Tuesday and was immediately jailed, but his time behind bars could be cut short with his party on the cusp of winning back power.

The divisive billionaire landed in a private jet at Don Mueang International Airport in the capital Bangkok at 9 a.m., to be greeted by hundreds of noisy 'Red Shirt' supporters waving banners and singing songs.
