La Salle's Laput: I could do more

A SHEVANA Laput that is still far from realizing her full potential, whose ceiling is high, is like a gift waiting for La Salle to unwrap.
At the same time, for the opposition, especially in the UAAP women's volleyball tournament, it's like a ticking bomb about to explode that could ruin their campaign.

Following a promising rookie year campaign in the Lady Spikers' conquest of UAAP Season 85, Laput continued her fine form in the Shakey's Super League National Invitationals.
With La Salle's top ace Angel Canino skipping the tournament to rest, Laput stepped up big time, her swinging ways notching her the MVP plum.
The 6-foot-2 Opposite Spiker was first to admit that she's still far from the best version of herself, though.
'Honestly, on like — the TV on stats, it's good but I know in myself that I could be so much better. That's not the best version of me and there's still so much more that I need to do. I'll say like six [out of 10 is the rating I'll give myself],' said Laput.
The Filipino-Aussie spiker stood out for La Salle, especially in its best-of-3 finals series against the Adamson Lady Falcons, where she registered 20.33 points highlighted by a 30-point career game in Game 1.
Laput and the Lady Spikers lost the opener but won back-to-back capped by a 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 Game 3 triumph on Sunday, August 13, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
For Laput, winning the MVP is just a reminder for her to work harder, especially with the other teams looking to focus their defense on her.
'I mean it's really great. It's amazing. It's an honor, like I said. But I guess this makes me feel like I need to step up even more. I need to work even harder, you know, now that there's 'reputation' kind of thing, ' said Laput.
'It's just adjusting again. I'll still improve as a player so they will also need to — like people also need to adjust to me still. But it's just me playing as myself.'
Laput, a former long jump athlete, wasn't about to take full credit for her MVP run, deflecting some to her teammates.
Their trust and coverage for Laput gave her the confidence to swing with all her might.
'I feel honored but like I said, it was all because of my teammates. My teammates gave me that trust, they gave me that bose to hit and they gave the support. I could swing knowing that they're there covering (for) me.'
