(UPDATE) THE West Philippine Sea (WPS) joint maritime patrol agreement between the Philippines and the United States is almost done, the National Security Council (NSC) said on Wednesday.

"We are hopeful that this will be launched before the end of this year," NSC Assistant Director Gen. Jonathan Malaya, NSC spokesman, said in a public briefing, noting the purpose of the joint patrol is to ensure freedom of navigation by keeping sea lanes open.
