BAGUIO CITY: The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) under Col. Francisco Bulwayan Jr. is intensifying its operations against loose firearms called "Oplan Katok" by maintaining regular checkpoints and visiting registered gun owners who have not renewed their firearms licenses for them to surrender the weapons to the police as part of efforts to ensure honest, peaceful and credible October 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in the Summer Capital.

Cpt. Angeline Dongpaen of the BCPO public information office said as of July 31 this year, the Baguio City committee on the ban of firearms and security concerns had not received any applications for gun ban exemption while the police are continuously conducting Oplan Katok for the third notice on registered gun owners to address the proliferation of both unregistered and loose firearms and to strictly monitor the status of gun license holders.
