First of a series
PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is aware of the key issues facing the country and the breadth and scope of them. That is the good news because that is not something to take for granted. Post EDSA, the only other presidents who I thought had a thorough grasp of all the key issues facing us were Presidents Ramos and Arroyo. Though economics was not his forte, President Duterte was wise enough to appoint, trust and empower Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez 3rd and we had expert macroeconomic policies and substantial tax reform resulting in more compliance and collection. Alas, the issue is what is happening with laws and policies to address them and the execution of those laws and policies. These are the questions, and a year after his inauguration the President had gone beyond broad principles in his inaugural state of the nation to some specific areas in his second. Alas, we still await the actual proposed changes in law, regulation, and executive action.
