Senator wants arbitral award recognized by high court

Sen. Francis Joseph 'Chiz' Escudero sought a Supreme Court ruling recognizing the 2016 Arbitral Award in favor of the Philippines to make it part of the law of the land and upheld by future Philippine presidents.

On July 12, 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) invalidated China's expansive claim in the South China Sea through its 'nine-dash line' policy, which encroached on the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.
