INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Benjamin 'Benhur' Abalos Jr. ordered the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to investigate the collapse of several electric posts in Binondo on Thursday. August 3.Abalos also instructed BFP Chief Louie Puracan to coordinate with the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to provide assistance to the affected individuals and help in clearing the area.At least three persons were injured while eight parked vehicles were damaged when seven electric posts along Ongpin Street collapsed at around 1 p.m. Thursday.Those injured were immediately brought to the hospital, according to the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO). The cause of the collapse was not immediately determined.Due to the incident, the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) temporarily closed Plaza Ruiz from traffic. It has since been opened as of posting time.Abalos urged local government units (LGUs) to inspect electric posts, construction sites, billboards, and other similar installations to ensure that these will not collapse during heavy rains.The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced that a memorandum circular will be issued regarding the matter to ensure compliance and prompt action.
