THE 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed Timed Shootout Final witnessed a resounding victory for the McLaren Solus GT, solidifying its extraordinary performance capabilities and adding to the excitement of McLaren's 60th anniversary celebrations at the event.
The Solus GT, which made its dynamic debut on the first day of the festival, showcased its full potential during last Sunday's grand finale on Goodwood's 1.16-mile Hillclimb. McLaren Factory Driver, Marvin Kirchhöfer, delivered an impressive run of 45.342 seconds, securing McLaren's second Festival of Speed Timed Shootout win in just three years, following their triumph in 2021.
Originally born in the virtual world as part of the Gran Turismo Sport video game, the Solus GT was brought to life by McLaren, and only 25 customer cars of this exclusive model will be manufactured. Powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 840 PS and 650 Nm of torque, the Solus GT's remarkable performance is enhanced by its sub-1,000-kilogram weight and impressive aerodynamic package.
Throughout the Festival, the Solus GT was on display at McLaren House, captivating the audience with its stunning design and powerful presence. Joining it on showcase was McLaren's latest 750S supercar, which proved to be the lightest and most potent series-production McLaren. The 750S made its public dynamic debut, impressing spectators with several high-speed runs over the course of the weekend.
Michael Leiters, chief executive officer of McLaren Automotive, expressed his joy at the Solus GT's victory in the Timed Shootout Final, capping off a milestone Goodwood Festival of Speed for McLaren. The brand's 60th-anniversary celebrations coincided with the Festival's 30th anniversary and included a Triple Crown tribute at McLaren House and on the Hillclimb, along with the exhilarating public dynamic debuts of both the Solus GT and the new 750S. The victory in the Timed Shootout Final serves as a testament to the incredible achievements of the McLaren team.
