THE Department of Agriculture (DA) is targeting 1 million hectares (ha) of irrigated areas for planting through the Masagana Rice Industry Development Program (MIRDP).
DA Undersecretary for Rice Industry Development Leocadio Sebastian said that by planting irrigated areas in both national and communal systems of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), it could lead to a yield of 8 tons per hectare or 8 million metric tons for harvest early next year despite the El Niño phenomenon.
