German chemicals giant BASF's profits plunge

From April to June, net profits came in at 499 million euros ($545 million), a fall of 76 percent on the same period a year earlier.

'We faced low demand from our key customer industries, except for automotive,' said Chief Executive Officer Martin Brudermueller.
