PHILIPPINE Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) leaders had a meeting with Senator Cynthia Villar, chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform, where she presented the New Agrarian Emancipation Act — recently signed into law by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. — at the PCCI Office in Taguig last June 23. The meeting was jointly organized by the PCCI Agriculture and Fishery Committee and the PCCI Legislative Committee.

The law wrote off the existing loan of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) from unpaid amortizations, interest, penalties and surcharges that arose from the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program and other agrarian reform programs and laws. It aimed to help in the development of farms, in decreasing poverty and in advancing an agriculture-driven economy, as it gave financial relief to ARBs. Apart from the New Agrarian Emancipation Act, other issues discussed were the concerns of domestic food processors on the accessibility of refined sugar at a lower cost and the continued proliferation of smuggling, among others.
