THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) appears to be set to identify an internet voting solution for overseas Filipinos as it explores voting technology with the holding of a demonstration of internet voting solutions from eight providers on July 11, 2023.
The Comelec seeks to address the issue of low overseas voter turnout, which was about 34 percent in the 2022 national and local elections, a tad higher than the 2019 polls. The low turnout may be attributed to the high cost that may be incurred by overseas voters and accessibility, as migrant workers qualified to vote need to take a day or two off from their jobs to travel to a post nearest their job location where voting is available.
