I SPOTTED this excellent commentary by J. William Pfeiffer while surfing the Net, and thought of abridging it due to space limitations. If you wish to know what, how, why messages get lost in translation, this is a must-read.
A person's interpersonal life is dependent on that person's facility to have his or her thoughts, feelings and needs known to others; similarly, it is dependent on that person's receptiveness to the messages of others. Communication is a multifaceted phenomenon. In simple terms, it is the sending and receiving of messages, as both elements must be present for communication to take place. However, the fundamental transaction of messages sent and received does not presuppose that communication has occurred.
