Dear PAO,

My cousin used to be a stay-at-home mom, but she was offered a job that would financially help their family. So, she hired "N" to be their family's stay-in all-around helper. N was only referred to my cousin by her neighbor's helper. My cousin agreed to give N her asking salary because N promised that she would stay with them for at least one year. To my cousin's dismay, N left them without a word after being with them for 14 days. Now, my cousin received a message from N asking her to send her salary for the days she rendered service as well as her supposed 13th month pay, via a cash transfer mobile application. Will it be valid for my cousin to reject her demand? To be honest, N caused more inconvenience than help. For one, my cousin paid for this helper's transportation expenses from their province to Manila, thinking that she would comply with their agreement. Secondly, my cousin now has to take a leave of absence from her new job just so she can do the tasks that were supposed to be done by N.
