BONTOC, Mountain Province: The Northern Sagada Barangay Small-Scale Mining Association Incorporated has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the Artisan Gold Council for the conduct of mercury-free mining activities in the province held at Myrna's Hall, Samoki Valley Inn-Extension, Samoki.
Item 4.4.d of Section IV (Terms and Conditions of Small-Scale Mining Contract) of the Small-Scale Mining Contract states that the small-scale contractor Sagada association shall not use mercury in any phase of small-scale mining to ensure sustainable pocket mining activities and help in preserving and protecting the province's environment.
