DHAKA: An unknown number of people were missing on Sunday after a boat carrying up to 40 passengers sank in a river in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, police said.

Police said the "water bus" was ferrying people across the Buriganga river at about 8 p.m. when it was hit by a cargo vessel carrying sand near Sadarghat, the South Asian nation's largest river port.
