BAGUIO CITY: The city government led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong plans to provide incentives to people who will plant and grow trees in available open spaces in the Summer Capital's villages, especially those that are denuded. He said there is an urgent need to replant trees in villages that 'look so bare and bereft of greenery.' 'We need to bring back the trees in said areas not only for beautification purposes but more importantly for health and environmental benefits,' he said. The mayor tasked the City Environment and Parks Management Office under lawyer Rhenan Diwas and other concerned offices to come up with incentive packages to encourage people to plant trees. He also urged groups and individuals to continue their regular tree-planting programs and activities in watersheds and forest reservations in the city to sustain these vital sources of water and clean air.
