O.D. Corpuz, in his landmark book, "The Roots of the Filipino Nation," reports that the Filipino revolutionary forces drafted not once but twice a constitution for the first Philippine Republic. On Nov. 1-2, 1898, in Biak-na-Bato, 50 revolutionary leaders convened themselves as a constituent assembly of representatives, which was presided over by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. They adopted and signed a "constitución provisional de la Republica de Filipinas."
