THE chief of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned on Monday that the effusive activity of the Mayon Volcano in Albay Province may transition to a hazardous or explosive eruption.

Phivolcs director Teresito "Toto" Bacolcol reiterated his agency's warning that the 6-kilometer radius of the permanent danger zone (PDZ) must be maintained.
