THE executive arm of the European Union has proposed to extend the validity of preferential tariffs granted to developing countries as new legislation has yet to be approved by lawmakers.

"The ordinary legislative procedure is ongoing but has not been concluded and there is a risk that it will not be concluded in time, the European Commission (EC) said in a proposal released by the Philippines' trade department on Wednesday.
