Dear PAO,

Our helper's husband wants to file a complaint for illegal dismissal. He used to work as a utility personnel for a private company in the province. He filed for a three-day leave because he learned that his brother passed away, so he needed to take care of the transportation of his brother's remains from Manila to their hometown in Davao, as well as to attend his brother's burial. Although his leave was granted, he received an earful from his supervisor and was made to sign a piece of blank paper. When he reported back to work, he was not allowed to enter the workplace. He messaged his supervisor about the situation, but he did not receive any reply. He was able to talk to some of his coworkers who told him that their supervisor showed them his signed resignation letter. He said that he did not file for resignation but only for a leave of absence. His coworkers were also doubtful that it was from him because it was written in English. They knew that our helper's husband can barely write because he did not even finish grade school and that he does not know how to speak, much less write, in English. Can he pursue filing a complaint considering that there appears to be a resignation letter from him? Please advise.
