WE agree with the Supreme Court that postponing the village and youth council elections was unconstitutional. But it is unfortunate that the decision was not handed down sooner, or that the constitutionality of postponing those elections was not challenged earlier.
The good part is that the court's ruling prevents future attempts to put off Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, which are also referred to as BSKE. As mentioned before in this space, allowing the postponement sets a dangerous precedent about elections and could undermine democracy. Imagine if the BSKE can be postponed, what other elections may be called off or rescheduled?
