LIKE past campaigns, the Department of Tourism's (DoT) new "Love the Philippines" slogan got a range of reactions, from kudos by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other top leaders, to Albay Rep. Jose Maria Clemente "Joey" Salceda lamenting that his province's Mayon Volcano was missed.
But the latest tourism pitch was perhaps the first in maybe decades to get a comment from the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Its Episcopal Commission on Public Affairs executive director, Fr. Jerome Secillano, speaking to the church's Radio Veritas, urged the DoT to promote pilgrimages to churches, along with the usual beach and nature destinations, even as he expressed support for the overall campaign.
