BACOLOD CITY: Sugar industry leaders are up in arms against the renewed plan of Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno to liberalize the importation of sugar.
The United Sugar Producers Federation (Unifed) is appealing to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ignore calls to allow industrial users to directly import their sugar needs as a concession to plans to increase taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages.
