PHILIPPINE Airlines recently concluded a firm purchase agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of nine A350-1000 long-range aircraft. The contract was formally signed during the Paris Air Show, with Captain Stanley Ng, president and chief operating officer of PAL, and Christian Scherer, Airbus chief commercial officer and head of international, in the presence of Lucio Tan 3rd, president and chief operating officer of PAL Holdings Inc.

The A350-1000 was selected as part of PAL's Ultra Long Haul Fleet project and will operate on nonstop flights from Manila to various destinations in North America, including the East Coast of the United States and Canada. These new aircraft will join the airline's existing fleet of two A350-900s already in service. At present, PAL has 69 aircraft in their fleet. With the nine new airplanes, PAL's fleet count is now close to 80, addressing the current need for more planes and widen their flight route network.
