THERE is no doubt that the impact of the advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI) is so significant that a few months after the launch of ChatGPT, it has remained on the discussion table of various sectors and continues to be a hot topic on social media platforms, both locally and internationally. Seminars, conferences, fora and the like on how to contain the apparent disruptions AI has brought to the "peaceful state of affairs" of many abound in the business and education sectors today.

As part of its sustaining readiness on AI's contribution to university education, the University of Santo Tomas conducted a seminar titled, "Sparking a Quest for Change — Education's Emerging Paradigm." The eye-opening discussion was facilitated by Jerome Lo, director of Learning Technologies and Digital Media at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.Professor Lo gave significant input on the technical advantages that generative AI can contribute to the shifting focus of teaching and learning in universities. But the points I would like to share with you are my reflections on the changing principles every educator should keep in mind as the evolution of education happens right before our very eyes.
