Senate urged to pass seafarers' magna carta

CAMARINES Sur Rep. Luis Raymund 'LRay' Villafuerte is urging the Senate to act on its counterpart measure to the House-approved bill, which seeks to give the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and other agencies sufficient powers to better protect the nation's 700,000 seafarers working in local and foreign-flagged vessels.

'Our senators need to act on the pending Senate version of the approved magna carta in the House of Representatives, guaranteeing better labor protection for our sailors from the time of their training and recruitment up to their retirement from their jobs,' he said in a statement.
