China, US see progress, but close no gaps

BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday he saw headway in his country's strained relationship with the United States during a rare visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, but the rival powers remained at odds over their core disputes.

In a symbolic sign of lowering the temperature after soaring tensions, Xi received Blinken in Beijing's vast Great Hall of the People and said the two powers had 'made progress and reached agreement' on unspecified issues.
