'Deferment must meet requirements'

CALLS to postpone the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) in Negros Oriental and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) must meet the legal requirements, including consultations with residents of the concerned areas, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday.

Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said that while the commission has the authority to defer or postpone the elections in a certain area, consultations with the people is always a must to determine if they are in favor or not, and the legal requirements stated under the law are present.
