BALLIA, India: Nearly 170 people died in two of India's most populous states in recent days amid a brutal heat wave, officials said on Monday, as hospitals are overwhelmed with patients and routine power outages add to the challenges.
In northern Uttar Pradesh state, 119 people died from heat-related illnesses in the last several days, while neighboring Bihar state saw 47 people die, local news reports and health officials said.
