PH pork production seen lower this year

DOMESTIC pork production is expected to hit a lower 925,000 metric tons (MT) this year as African swine fever (ASF) continues to spread in the Philippines, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) said.

The USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service trimmed its pork meat production forecast from 975,000 MT previously, citing the disease's 'continued spread into new provinces within the Central and Western Visayas region, including Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Aklan.'
