On Father's Day

DADDY... Mr. Justice Hilarion Lolarga Aquino, a native of Camiling, Tarlac, came to Tuguegarao, a complete stranger here, to start a family with Mommy. Grandpa, Mr. Sofronio T. Callangan, suggested the idea of him running for councilor (today's Sanggunian board member) to make himself known and to start his law practice.

It was a good idea. Daddy ran — and relatives from Libag, Capatan and Gosi helped. He won — and made it to the very top of the roster, so much so that other candidates thought it improbable that a stranger should best them. They asked for a recount — and the ballot boxes were opened once more for a recount, and Daddy got one more vote than he first had.
