'Mayon explosive eruption possible'

THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has not ruled out a hazardous and explosive eruption as Mayon Volcano continues to show signs of unrest such as lava flows and volcanic earthquakes.

Phivolcs chief Dr. Teresito 'Toto' Bacolcol said that these activities reflect 'what is happening on the vent.' He said at least three volcanic earthquakes and 11 pyroclastic density currents were recorded from 5 a.m. on June 17 to 5 a.m. on June 18.
