Phivolcs records drop in Mayon volcanic activity, mulls lowering alert level

THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a decrease in seismic activity and sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission at Mayon Volcano on Tuesday, prompting the govt agency to consider bringing down the alert level if the decrease is 'sustained.'

'If there is a sustained decrease in the monitored parameters in the next few weeks, then we have to revert back to Alert Level 2,' Phivolcs Director Teresito 'Toto' Bacolcol said in an exclusive interview with The Manila Times on Tuesday.
