Jokic: Importance of late draft picks

BASKETBALL SLEUTH

GAME 4 of the NBA Finals just stressed my point on that day's column. The Miami Heat's best is simply not good enough. The first five of the Denver Nuggets is practically a perfect first five, the kind of five they build in basketball movies or anime. Except that none of them conceptualized a player like Nikola Jokic. He is simply unique.

The Miami Heat fought hard, Jimmy Butler finally asserted himself, Bam Adebayo was spectacular, but the Nuggets simply had too many weapons in that eight-man rotation. Bruce Brown stepped out, and Aaron Gordon held the fort as a forward center when the Heat successfully placed Jokic in foul trouble.
