TRASH SPORT Contestants from 17 groups joined the first-ever ‘Spogomi’ trash-picking competition in the Philippines at the Baseco Beach in Manila on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Spogomi, a combination of ‘sports’ and ‘trash’ in Japanese, was first held in Japan in 2008 to clean up the coastlines. Organized by The Nippon Foundation and locally by Ambox Events, the contest then evolved into a worldwide competition where the winners, determined by whoever collects the most trash, will face each other at the World Cup 2023 in Japan this November.
