JUMPERS or illegal tapping of electrical connection was pinpointed as the common cause of fires that break out in informal settlements in Metro Manila, an official of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

"The most common cause of fires is electrical. The problem now with the informal settlers is, they continue to tap electricity," Fire Inspector Bryan Lee, chief of the intelligence and investigation unit of the BFP National Capital Region, told The Manila Times.
