36 former rebels receive cash and livelihood assistance

CAVINTI, Laguna: Former rebels in Quezon province received cash and livelihood assistance through the collaboration of the Philippine Army, particularly the 1st Infantry Battalion (1IB) of the 2nd Infantry Division, the Department of Social Welfare and Development 4A, and the local government unit of Quezon. The event was held at the Headquarters of 1IB, Barangay Tongohin in Infanta, Quezon on June 8. Recognizing the importance of socioeconomic stability in fostering lasting peace, the 202nd 'Unifier' Brigade having operational control over 1IB, has undertaken various efforts to address the root causes of conflict and promote reconciliation. Through this initiative, concerned government agencies extended a helping hand to former rebels by providing them with opportunities for sustainable livelihood programs. During the event, Undersecretary Alan Tanjusay of DSWD, Office for Inclusive and Sustainable Peace, highlighted the government's goal of attaining sustainable peace and emphasized the significance of reintegrating former rebels into the community. He said the assistance provided was part of the government's comprehensive integration program designed to support their transition to a normal life. The assistance package includes a cash grant, which will help recipients alleviate immediate financial burdens and provide the means to meet their basic needs. Beneficiaries also received training, resources and other support to establish a hog-raising venture. In his statement, BGen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr., commander of the 202nd Infantry Brigade, said: 'Your collective efforts manifest your commitment to achieving lasting peace and social cohesion in the region, particularly in Quezon province toward the attainment of an environment conducive to long-lasting peace, stability, and prosperity.' On April 11, 41 former rebels in Quezon province received E-CLIP grants facilitated by the DILG.
