BAGUIO CITY: The City Council passed Resolution 279-23 congratulating the Baguio Chronicle for winning three major awards during the 2022 Civic Journalism Community Press Awards by the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) for the weekly category in Pasay City in April. The PPI, considered the oldest media association in the country, holds an annual Civic Journalism Community Press Award with the aim of raising the standards of the community press and recognizing its role as a catalyst for local development. This annual recognition, launched in 1996, is a manifestation of support and acknowledgment of the community press, the approved measure stated. It disclosed that for the year 2022, the Baguio Chronicle bagged three awards at the ceremony recently held for the 2022 Civic Journalism Community Press Awards by the PPI, including Best in Reporting on Mitigation Issues; Best Editorial Page; and Best Edited Community Newspaper. The Baguio Chronicle was established in December 2009 in the Summer Capital and circulated in the Ilocos and the Cordillera Regions. 'Now on its 14th year, it continues to grow and become among the fastest-growing weekly publications in the region; and its coverage and presentation of the issues reflect a fair, balanced, and fact-based opinion and reporting that embodies the core of print professionals,' the measure stressed.
