Untapped opportunities in biofuels

BIOFUELS, or fuels derived from organic sources, are increasingly being seen as an easy solution to meeting electricity needs in a more sustainable way, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicle fuel and import dependence. But while the Philippines' energy roadmap devotes significant attention to increasing fuel production targets, it has very little to say about increasing production of the feedstock for that fuel — a problem common to other countries in the region, too, and a huge potential that is being missed. Fortunately, it is a problem that can be fixed.
