More revelations, questions at Senate hearing on Degamo slay

RESURGENCE

THE Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on May 10 resumed its investigation into the March 4 Pamplona massacre. Several resource persons gave their testimonies, sharing the painful stories of lives lost and elusive justice. Others shared sordid personal details. There were tears, accusations, name-dropping and more that could take the Senate committee months to sort out.

Police Capt. Allen June Germodo, who has been accused of being Rep. Arnolfo Teves' 'bagman,' appeared before the Senate panel to refute the allegation. He blamed a now-retired colleague, Reuel Piñero, for — out of envy — being the source of the malicious rumor. According to Germodo, he and Piñero started their police careers at the same time. However, Germodo went on to become a commissioned officer, holding various posts under the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOrPPO) from 2018 until October 2022.

Arnolfo Teves while Piñero was a suspect in the May 5, 2020 murder of radio broadcaster Cornelio ‘Rex’ Pepino.
