ROME: Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy arrived in Rome on Saturday for talks with Italian officials and Pope Francis, who said recently that the Vatican had launched a behind-the-scenes initiative to try to end the war launched by Russia early last year.

The visit came hours after Germany announced it would provide Ukraine with additional military aid worth more than 2.7 billion euros ($3 billion).
